When these cats were abandoned at a farm by the people who were looking after them, Mississauga Animal Rescue was called in to do a cleanup.
Over 30 cats were rescued from November 2008 to end of January 2009. All the cats were spayed or neutered, vaccinated and relocated to a new barn. All 15 kittens went to a foster home and have since been adopted.

Story of Samantha and Claudio
rescued from the same barn

Erin her husband Guy and little
Samantha December 2008
Samantha, a little brown tabby female, 6 months of age, was the only one that tested positive for Feline Leukemia. Lucky for her, we found a couple that already had a cat with leukemia and fell in love with Samantha the minute they saw her. Thanks to Erin and Guy she is now in a loving home with a new friend. |

Claudio
This beautiful, friendly little man is around 3 years old has tested positive for FIV. He is a very loving cat and it was obvious that he had previously been someone cat. Claudio is the only one left that needs a forever home.

George Before

George After |
George just appeared one day in a barn where we had placed one of our feral's rescued last year. As you can see he was not in great condition but had no major medical issues. He was undernourished and quite matted. As he was “shy” but not “feral” we decided to try him in foster care to see if he would adapt well enough to place for adoption. Thanks to the efforts and good care of one of our volunteers who offered to foster him, he adapted very well and was adopted into a caring home within a few months, where he is thriving and quite content to be an indoor only cat.

Shamus & Friend Jack
Shamus (the black cat comfortably resting on the sofa) and another female cat Esmeralda, were placed in a horse training /boarding facility last spring. Shamus adapted so well to his new environment and his caregivers at the stables that he was taken home with one of the trainers within a couple of months. As you can see he is quite comfortable in a home he shares with his pal “Jack”. Last we heard they were working on Esmeralda as one of her caregivers would also like to give her a home as an indoor companion.

Matt – Kitten Adoptee
Matt was rescued just weeks ago from a feral colony that we have been working with in Mississauga. He is a healthy, lively, lovable little guy who was adopted from the clinic who helps us with our adoptions. His new caregiver said he “chose” her as he was all over her when she was trying to make a decision on which kitten to choose. Sometimes it pays to be a little “pushy”. He will be joined shortly by a little orange tabby kitten who is still a little young to be away from Mum. Both will have a loving home with an excellent caregiver.

Ashley |
Ashley is one of our older rescues. She has spent her life in two foster homes, survived a fire and spent the last five years in a barn environment. She never adapted well in foster care so it was decided to release her to a barn environment and she thrived there. Thanks to the patience and efforts of her caregivers she responded well and would come into the house for food and petting. However she would not stay in the house as there is a dog, (although he is gentle but large) She is a sweet girl. So as she is getting older (she is now 15) and it is not easy to adopt them at this age, one of our volunteers decided to take her home to live out her “golden” years. She is in good shape for an “old girl. She is very loving, gets along well with the other cats she now lives with and is quite happy to be an indoor only cat.

The Barn Cats |
| “M.A.R.S. placed the above cats in a barn environment over 5 years ago. They are well fed, healthy and active and have adjusted extremely well. Thanks to the patience and caring of the lady who cares for them, with the exception of one, all are approachable and while not adoptable. The two long hairs, Wanda and Rex, will even tolerate brushing occasionally which prevents them from getting matted. They have been provided with a separate insulated, cozy shelter inside the barn for the rainy days and the colder winter months. |

“Jazz, the beautiful black boy, was placed in this horse barn environment a year ago. There were two resident cats in the barn, Scotty, a male and Mummy, a female. Scotty and Jazz took to each other immediately and as you can see from the pictures and have become fast friends. Mummy eventually accepted Jazz as one of the gang but is a little more reserved in temperament and picks and chooses her times with Jazz but they co-exist peacefully. They have wonderful caregivers in this environment and as you can see Jazz responds very well to humans now.
